2008 Junior Drag Racing Championship 17/02/08
Jerry & Sharron Collier are once again pleased to announce that the 2008 Junior Drag Bike Championship will be contested over five rounds and will be run exclusively at Shakespeare County Raceway. It will once again be sponsored by Dave and Charlotte at Dave Beck Racing. ‘As all other classes move to Santa Pod for three of their rounds we have managed to arrange permits to run the Championship at three of the Warwickshire venue’s Test & Tune weekends thanks to the team at Shakespeare County Raceway‘, says Sharron. ‘This now means that for the Junior Bikers, these specific weekends will be run under race conditions, have to be pre-entered with full qualifying and eliminations rounds for trophies, prizes and points towards the championship.

Rounds include:
Round 1 April 19th/20th - Additional permit round
Round 2 May 3rd/5th - Springspeed National Drag Races
Round 3 July 12th/13th - Additional permit round
Round 4 August 23rd/25th - Open Sport Nationals
Round 5 finals October 11th12th - Additional permit round.

Entry fees for these rounds will remain at £90 for the two national events and £60 for the additional permit events. Fees have not been increased this year to bring them into line with other classes, as Junior Drag Bike only runs at Shakespeare County. Furthermore, riders will be able to test and tune at all three additional permit rounds when they are not qualifying or under race conditions at no extra charge.

We would like to congratulate the 2007 winner and runner up, eleven year old Scott Collier for retaining his JB1 plate and to Tyler Clutterbuck, aged 14 for his JB2 plate. Also, we most make mention and congratulate ten year old 2007 Rookie of the Year Jordon Bissell for being presented the Shakespeare County Raceway ‘Award for Outstanding Achievement’ at the APIRA/SPRC joint presentation earlier this month. Well done lads!

With interest building in the class, it is expected that there will be a couple of new additions this year, so a big ’welcome’ to anyone building a bike for this season. It would be appreciated if any new members could contact Jerry or Sharron with information about their bikes. Also, if there are any ex-Junior Bikers reading this can they also please get in contact, to let them know what you are doing now, is your machine or any equipment or clothing up For Sale? ‘We get asked often if we know of anyone selling leathers or complete bikes,’ says Sharron. For these and any other enquiries about Junior Drag Bike Racing please contact either Jerry or Sharron Collier on 01246 570304 Or e-mail jerry@jaderacing.com

BILL BAXTERS, WORLD RECORD HOLDING KAWASAKI DRAG BIKE STOLEN! 08/12/07

On the 6th of December 2007, thieves stole Bill Baxter's Race Trailer including his world record holding Kawasaki H2 drag bike. The trailer and all Bill's race kit was stolen from his home in Dallas, TX.

Bill Baxter, one of America's H2 'gods' had his record holding H2 inside the trailer, along with all his race kit. The thieves also took his garden furniture! We know it is a very small world when it comes to drag racing, and this bike is definitely a one-off machine. It recently broke a world record for quickest H2, running 8.33 seconds, normally aspirated. Anyone in the two stroke community has heard of Bill Baxter and his rider Joe Bird, and the H2 community around the world is devastated by this theft.

If anyone sees anything on any web site, offering parts for sale etc. would they be so kind as to let us know. We're not sure if the thieves know anything about bikes, if they do they would surely realise they could not sell this bike without arousing suspicion. Or maybe they know nothing about bikes, don't realise how special it is and will try and sell it thinking "It's just a motorbike". We are hoping someone somewhere will see an ad for it, and would be immensely grateful if everyone could keep their eyes peeled.

JUNIOR DRAG BIKE and CHAMPIONSHIP REPORT 18/10/07
The opening round of the 2007 season for the Junior Drag Bikes got under way at Shakespeare County Raceway’s Springspeed national Drag races; round two of the UK National Championships. With 4 teams contesting the round, qualifying over the two day period was always going to be tight. Eventually, the top honour went to defending champ Scott Collier taking his 50cc Yamaha Junior Jade machine to a creditable 13.252 over the eighth against his 13.2 dial-in. Giselle Moor took her 125cc Yamaha Majestic into second (12.705) followed by the Honda 125 single cylinder 4 stroke Pro Mod bike of Jake Carruthers (12.761) and Tyler Clutterbuck (13.681). Sadly for the teams after two excellent days of racing and sun, the weather took a turn for the worst with only a very few round 1 eliminations being run. Fortunately, Junior Drag Bike was one of them with both Scott and Giselle taking the round wins; 13.28/47.67 on a 12.90 dial and 13.01/54.15 on a 12.30 dial respectively. Both were competition singles to the final.

Round two of the series, again at Shakespeare County Raceway saw two teams returning back to the track in May for a two-day Public Track Day Street Car event; Scott Collier and Jake Carruthers . With qualifying and eliminations completed in a matter of hours it was young Jake who pushed his Honda Pro Mod machine to the winner’s circle where the trophies were presented by ‘Laffin Gas’ rocket car driver, Carolynn Campbell. Best times and speeds were 11.863 at 55.90 in favour of Jake and a 12.954 at 48.39 mph for Scott.

In amongst loads and loads of minis populating the venue were four Junior Drag Bike teams contesting round three at the British Mini Showdown sponsored by lane sponsors Motorshack. Again, qualifying was going to be tight with both Scott and new kid on the block Jordan Bissell riding his Yamaha 50cc Areox fighting it out for the number one spot. In the end it was Scott by mere fractions of a second on his last qualifier of 13.214 on a 13.15 dial. Second was Jordan Third was the 125cc Yamaha of Giselle Moor with a 12.800 second time and Tyler was in number four spot.

With qualifying conducted in summery conditions, overnight it turn very sour indeed with everyone waking up at 3.00am in the morning to the sound of heavy rain that didn’t clear until well into the afternoon signalling the end of the weekend. However, even though there were no winners as such, Motorshack proprietor Steve Wood was kind enough to present the trophies to the rounds quickest two qualifiers; Jordan and Scott.

With such along wait between rounds everyone was praying for fine weather for SCR’s Open Sport Nationals which was duly rewarded with three excellent days of qualifying and racing. Topping the timing sheets was Giselle with a 12.341 on a 13.30 dial followed by Jordan’s 14.581 (14.450), Scott with a 13.138 (13.00) and Tyler on a 10.75 dial in resulting in a 10.972.

Round one commenced with Tyler taking out Giselle at the top end with an 11.081/57.54 to a losing 12.532/52.20 while Scott’s 13.312 on his 13.30 index put paid to Jordan’s 14.595. In the final run-off it was Tyler taking the round points with Junior Jade Scott coming in runner up.

So the championship ends with Scott Collier retaining his JB1 plate, Tyler Clutterbuck second, Giselle Moor third, Jake Carruthers fourth and rookie Jordan Bissell coming in as JB5. Thanks to all the people who helped Junior Bike this year, first of all Julia Wilcox, Jerry Cookson and everyone at Shakespeare County Raceway, Dave and Charlotte Beck for sponsoring the class, Steve Wood at Motorshack, Stephen Wexler at Eclipse Photos, Carl at Turnertech for his help and commitment to the junior bike web site over the last few years (www.juniordragbike.co.uk) and Ozzy at WTD for stepping into Carl's shoes and carrying on the great work for us. Last but most importantly, a huge THANKS to all the riders and parents for making this such a great racing and great fun year.

Calling all Junior Drag Bike riders, past present and future.

03/03/2007

Further to a press release issued by Shakespeare County Raceway a short while ago, organizers from Junior Drag Bike are pleased to announce that in addition to the two scheduled championship meetings at Shakespeare County Raceway, the Junior Drag Bike class will be looking to run extra permit events in a joint initiative between the ACU and APIRA within three RWYB weekends at Shakespeare County Raceway.

This will mean that for Junior Drag Bike class only at these particular weekends will be full championship rounds, must be pre-entered, have full qualifying and eliminations which will generate points toward the championship, and will bring the number of Junior Drag Bike Championship rounds in line with all other UK national classes. Also these will be exclusive to Shakespeare County as the class does not participate at SPRC events like all the other classes. The championship will now consist of the following rounds:

May 5th/6th/7th - Speedfest '07 (Round 1)
May 19/20 – Super Street Car Shootout (Round 2)
July 15/16 - British Mini Showdown (Round 3)
August 25th/26th/27th - Open Sports Nationals (Round 4)
October 13/14 - Straightliners End of Season Bash. (Finals - Round 5.)

Further details regarding entry fees and closing dates will be posted in due course.

In the meantime if anyone requires any information about the series or any other matter relating to Junior Drag Bike prospective riders/teams can ring either Jerry or Sharron Collier on 01246 570304 or 07878 190844. We particularly want to hear from anyone who is busy building a new bike for the 2007 season as we are trying to create a database of all Junior Drag Bike riders which will hopefully generate some new information on the web sitewww.juniordragbike.co.uk expertly done for us by Carl Wadkin-Snaith, thanks Carl. We want to get this class growing and we need any input available. Thanks!
